Background
An International organisation working in Zimbabwe is seeking the services of a professional writer with experience in research for documentation purposes. The writer will assist the organisation to document its development work while capturing lived realities of communities. The writer will lead a team of writers for the purposes of this short term project on documentation. Writer and Researchers who are interested in creating work that helps illuminate lived realities of development work and encourage greater public understanding and discussion of these issues and meet the requirements are invited to apply.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Writer will be required to
-Capture the untold community stories in the country in relation to our work.
-Collect not less than 20 stories that best illustrate community realities.
-Design the framework and outline of the publication.
-All stories submitted should be unpublished.
-By submitting a complete portfolio of stories, the consultant confirms that he/she owns the right to all his/her stories and that the rights of persons included in his/her photographs have not been violated.
-In cases of photographs taken, captions are critical. Each photo must be accompanied with a short conceptualization caption (maximum 600 characters). Well-written captions are needed to understand the image’s context.

Skills, experience and qualifications required
-Five years progressive experience working in the development sector and a writer
-Experience on writing for development related work,
-Availability and willingness to travel,
-Ability to work in close coordination with other team members.

Assignment Duration: The assignment will cover 30 working days.

Vacancy – Environmental Health Coordinator: International Rescue Committee

International Rescue Committee seeks to fill in an immediate position of Environmental Health Coordinator to be based in Harare with frequent travel to the field.

Scope

The Environmental Health (EH) Coordinator will be the focal point for Environmental Health programs in Zimbabwe providing technical oversight to the Environmental Health Team and developing and implementing an Environmental Health Sector Strategic Plan. The EH Coordinator will ensure the implementation of a quality environmental health program in accordance with accepted national and international standards. S/He will be responsible for maintaining regular contact with all partners, including the relevant Government of Zimbabwe authorities, UN agencies and other NGOs. The EH Coordinator will also directly provide leadership to the IRC’s new Disaster Risk Reduction Program.

Responsibilities

Program Quality
-    Oversee, through supervision of the Program Manager(s) all project cycle management processes including: participation and preparation for grants opening/review/closing meetings, reporting, information management and data collection, budget and actual expenditure analysis, and program evaluations
-    Provide technical support to the EH program to ensure that the IRC programs are of high quality and that programs are driven by data and learning, working in conjunction with the Program Coordinator
-    Provide leadership and direction to the EH program on a day-to-day basis, working closely with project managers and officers
-    Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of program work plans taking into consideration time, quality and budget
-    Design and undertake environmental health assessments.

Program Development and Strategic Planning
-    Work with the EH Program staff, and senior management on the development of new program ideas to inform budgets and proposals; lead technical proposal writing and programmatic budget development
-    Lead the design process of the Country Sector Strategy for EH and ensure the final version is rolled out and adapted by program staff and by the Zimbabwe Country Program
-    Develop and undertake needs assessments to inform program design and strategic direction

Human Resources Management
-    Act as focal point and advocate for training and capacity building for all EH program staff including mentorship, supportive delegation, and staff exchanges where appropriate internally and with other IRC country programs
-    Supervise the EH program department and ensure regular performance evaluations and job description reviews are carried out
-    Participate in recruitment of EH staff
-    Provide leadership, promote professional working relationships, conflict resolution, and encourage EH staff members to manage their staff effectively

Representation and Communication
-    Responsible for liaison with and technical collaboration/communication with the designated technical advisor/ senior technical advisor for the IRC EH unit
-    Maintain relationships with all relevant donors in conjunction with the Program Coordinator and Country Director, informing them of partnership and funding opportunities
-    Oversee the writing of internal and external reports (formal and informal) by the EH Program staff
-    Maintain and enhance IRC’s profile within the Zimbabwe WASH cluster, the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, District Development Fund (DDF) and EH/WASH focused donor agencies
-    Act as the primary focal point for EH program internal/external inquiries

Program Management – Disaster Risk Reduction
-    Manage the IRC’s Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Program, including budget management and oversight, coordination of partners, design of workplans, supervision of implementation, technical oversight, internal and external reporting, project human resource management, etc
-    Leadership of the DRR program will require management of cross-functional teams (economic development, nutrition, WASH) and close collaboration with other sector coordinators and technical advisors.

Other
Perform other duties as directed by the Program Coordinator or as the program changes.

Requirements

-    Degree in Public Health, Civil Engineering or Environmental Sciences (MSc is an advantage)
-    Experience as a water and sanitation professional, preferably in both urban and rural settings
-    Five years experience in developing sector strategies and designing, coordinating, implementing and managing environmental health programs in developing countries
-    Experience in managing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programs is an added advantage
-    Background in situation analysis, environmental health assessments and program implementation
-    Additional qualities: ability to multitask, ability to handle pressure well, ability to improvise, flexibility, adaptability to transitions, good management and communication skills

Children with disabilities are often hidden, locked-up and isolated from society. Nobody believes in their potential. But S4S does! The only precondition is an encouraging environment.

We empower the children to break out from their isolation and surprise society with their potential. We inspire, encourage and coach them to move boundaries. We create lasting change, by involving the whole community.

We strengthen them via physiotherapy and adapted physical activity. We connect them with able-bodied as well as disabled peers and teach them to stand up for themselves in society. We teach families how to deal with disability and fend for themselves economically. During the whole process, we keep monitoring progress. So we can achieve maximum potential. And we inspire, encourage and coach the community to
change their minds about disability.

Background
Sport 4 Socialisation (S4S) is working in Zimbabwe since 2008. From the Eastern border Town Mutare, where the S4S headquarters is based, we work very hard on the implementation of our multiple award winning Social Inclusion Programme. We support children with disabilities and their families with adapted and inclusive physical activities, physiotherapy, healthcare, parent support groups and livelihood development.

Over 500 children and their families are supported through this programme.

Role of the Physiotherapist
In general the Physiotherapist shall be responsible for the running of the physiotherapy clinic and the casting room. Under the physiotherapist programme we have several sub-programmes:
-Intakes and assessments
-Physiotherapy (incl. casting)
-Direct Child Support (medication, corrective surgeries and assistive devices)
-Disability maintenance and awareness training.

Key tasks and responsibilities
-Organise and implement intake and assessments with (new) beneficiaries and their families
-Implement physiotherapy therapy activities on a daily basis for children with a disability
-Build and maintain a database for all beneficiaries including a Monitoring and Evaluation system
-Develop Individual Rehabilitation Plans with beneficiaries and their families and monitor and evaluate the progress of the beneficiaries
-Assess and plan individual child interventions (medication, corrective surgeries and assistive devices etc.) and provide follow ups of interventions done through home visits, school visits and group meetings
-Mediate for Direct Child Assistance (medication, corrective surgeries, assistive devices etc.)
-Maintain and improve relations with partners and stakeholders, especially with medical partners for individual child interventions
-Be responsible for the maintenance of the therapy equipment
-Prepare periodic evaluation reports
-Prepare periodic work plans, incl. budget.

Key requirements and skills

Education
-Bachelor of physiotherapy
-Work experience and knowledge
-Proven experience in a similar position
-Proven paediatric experience
-Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation
-Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
