Review of Livestock Supply Chain in Caritas Hwange: CAFOD – Zimbabwe
Deadline: 1 July 2011

CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales. In more than 40 countries across the world, we bring hope, compassion and solidarity to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice.

In Zimbabwe, CAFOD has been supporting local partners in Bulawayo, Hwange and Binga for a number of years with livelihoods and humanitarian interventions.  There are a number of ongoing programmes focused on WASH, livelihoods (including agriculture and livestock), and social protection.

Recent visits have highlighted significant gaps in the livestock supply chain, and limited resources (skills; materials; contacts; financial etc) from partners to respond to these gaps.

-    Recommend changes in practice to improve livestock management (as a means of economic empowerment)
-    Recommend potential market links which could be explored by the partner to further increase profitability of local producers

Expected outcomes: The consultant will be expected to submit a final report with clear and actionable recommendations by end July 2011

Required skills and competencies:
-    Advanced degree in Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture or other relevant qualification
