@JP while i did not agree with Jonathan Moyo's 100% local content policy in execution I do agree with its intent. Until that policy existed there was very limited space for local artists to showcase theri talents. Yes quality of productions was sacrificed for speed and qualntity, but i believe it provided a very neccessary boost for local talent. That doesn't mean that there aren't any well produced albums or songs out there though. Your generalisation that the quality of local artists has fallen is incorrect. We have artists whos production quality has improved over time. They wouldn't have careers in entertainment it not for the local content regulations. More than that i can count 10 local artists whos quality of production has improved with their releases; can you? The fact is, as Zimbabweans, and particularly as priveleged Zimbabweans we do not listen to our own artists enough.
@ Tich Media and entertainment the world over have a symbiotic relationship. One cannot survive without the other. Our media is kidding itself when they publish stories about Beyonce, or the lastest movie releases, all of which can be found online or more accurately reported by their local media. Zimpapers publications, and even independent publishers cannot argue for lack of content when websites like www.zimbojam.com have a daily local content rollover. The fact is there is enough content to fill any entertainment section, magazine or newspaper, the problem is negative agenda setting by new editors, and laziness on the part of reporters.

i must to some extent agree with one JP Matenga. While i am in no way an advocate of content quotas it is quite striking that it seems the profile of local artists fell with it. Perhaps it is still as a result of reduced access to them? You quite rightly pointed out that the focus so far has been on the scandals rather than proper profiling based on the talents of the artists concerned.

i'm surprised you did not mention the negative impact that jonathan moyo's 100% local content actually had on the local music industry. as a result the quality of artistes coming out fell dismally pushing people to support other countries industries.
