I agree entirely. We, the young people of Zimbabwe, too often back down, defer to our elders, supposing that their views are somehow more legitimate than our own, after all 'they did live through the war'. But enough, since when do we have to earn the right to engage in the building of our own country’s future? And, if it comes down to that, then surely we have lived through our own war - a silent, less clearly defined war but a war nonetheless. A war in which our rights have slowly been stolen, a war where people die unnoticed, the bodies mount – and yet we say nothing.

Its time to speak up, if we don’t then we have only ourselves to blame! We will one day inherit this mess and we will then have to explain to our children why we sat back and let our fathers and grandfathers rape and pillage our country without even the smallest whisper of protest.

Zimbabwe has so much potential, we all know how rich our land is, rich enough for us all to live and make a decent living – and, most importantly to let others do the same. We have to stop waiting for someone else to come and fix our problem.

It does no good to track back over our history again and again. ZANU use it as a political weapon but by doing so, they tie us to the past. We need to acknowledge that terrible and horrific crimes were committed in the past by our ancestors (white and black) and we must acknowledge that redress must be made – but our history is our history NOT our future - however it will become so if we continue to dwell on it. Mistakes have been made, now we must decide how we move forward. This is the choice that we face, as young people of Zimbabwe, will we in ignorance, fear and greed choose to repeat the mistakes of our ancestors or will we choose a better path? Will we choose to rewrite history and become an African success story?

I believe we can. I believe our country has a bright future ahead, but we need to get up and make it happen, regardless of what that might cost us. I say this because I know that Democracy and Freedom come at a high personal cost but I also believe that this cost is worth paying.
