Only North Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming have smaller populations.

Of course Palin has a high favoribility ranking among Republicans. Republicans vote Republican. McCain picked any old woman because he’s trying to draw in female undecided voters. Some of which is an attempt to attract Hillary Clinton supporters.

I’m afraid your understanding of US politics isn’t much better, when you say that “any old woman” would do for McCain; whether you like Palin or not is irrelevant to her high appeal with the Republican base, a 90% favorability rating according to a recent Rasmussen poll.
